This work by Sir Thomas Lawrence shows a young seventeen-year-old girl Rosamund Hester Elizabeth Pennel Croker, who later married Sir George Barrow.
What's unusual about this painting is that the model is smiling, if not definitely with the lips, but with the eyes. The genaral impression of this picture is joyful. The young lady in a lovely light-coloured dress is sitting against an unclear dark background of the window, where the sky is covered with stormy clouds (probably it's a painting in the painting). Yet there is an impression that she is at the theatre watching a play, because she is holding a lorgnette in her hand, in the artificially lighted room.
